A light comes in the name of the voice: A Collaboration with Corey Smith and Paige Naylor

  • Seth Sexton LLC 3205 20th Avenue South Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

It's a seven-hour opera for theatrical lights and mesh fabric forms. The lights are programmed in sync with the sound, so everything moves together to tell a kind of story over seven hours. When the lights turn on, the fabric forms are illuminated in a way that makes it feel like they're floating. It's really really magical and ghosty and slow.

The opera runs every day Monday-to-Friday from 11am to 6pm. I would love love love to have your eyes on the work. If anybody is up for a studio visit, I'd LOVE to chat about some of your extended thoughts and feelings.

Also!! If you aren't able to go to the gallery itself, I've documented it using a *Fancy 360 Camera*. It's...imperfect documentation. So much of the magic of the show is doubting your own eyes — is that a piece of fabric there? Is this the light or my imagination? But, I think it gives a strong vibe, it lets you listen to all of the music, and you might even get an idea for the big big big arc of the show. It’s available here.

Also also!!! There are two (2!) digital events that are happening alongside the gallery show. The first is tomorrow the 23rd — a Zoom workshop with Katie Giritlian, VCS MA student and brilliant&radiant soul. The second event is on the 28th and is a series of remixes from the opera. It features some of our colleagues — Jordan and Seth and Anthony. The info for both of these events is located at the bottom of this page. I'd love love love to see you at either!
